Giant Galactic Pizza

I have never understood nerds. They bitch and moan about things not being "realistic" -- they watch Star Trek episodes over and over so they can plot their own blueprints of the layout and extrapolate the "specs." Blah, blah, freaking blah. And then they bust out the dome and ring explosions. If an anime's in space and there aren't giant robots in it, I will bet you an origami boulder that there will be ring explosions and ray guns.

If the anime's on the ground and it isn't about a single guy surrounded by his own harem of schoolgirls at his every beck and call, you can bet there will be colorful expanding domes that represent Tokyo exploding. Not even getting into the whole real vs fake debate, ring and dome explosions just look god damn stupid -- When I watch a space show, what I don't expect to see is a giant galactic pizza.

I've seen a lot of bad drawing in my time -- sittin' there in beginning art to get some easy credits; but come on, the colorful bubble explosion is really pushing it. Let's be honest, what does this more look like, a multi-teraton explosion, or Mother Earth's bigass blue titty?
